Xinjiang
Finding the musical resemblance between Xinjiang province to the Middle Eastern sounds he grew up in was a great exploration for Gilad Passerby.
Based on a local folk song, he wrote “ALL DAY LONG”, which combines local elements, but also from other pasts in the world it can connect to.
The many styles of different landscapes in Xinjiang province, that include sands, snow, trees and water, also inspired Gilad Passerby to mix musical and visual elements, expressing the natural celebration he found in the province.
PASSERBY:
Hearing Xinjiang music I was surprised it reminded me so much of the Middle Eastern music I grew up on.
As we travel far away from our hometown, we plan to see things we haven’t seen before, but travel far enough, we might find out we pass all these miles just to meet ourselves once again. Meeting ourselves in a far away place allows us to talk with ourselves, observe us, and eventually unite to one.
